HUNTER VALLEY SEMILLON 2017 Hunter Valley, New South Wales
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer MARGAN FAMILY
Once again the 2017 was not presented at the press and/or consultants previews in the LCBO lab. The previous 2016 was at all three previews and it was stellar. The 2017 appears on page 49 of the May 11th Vintages Catalogue AND on page 45 of the April 14 Vintages Catalogue. As stated, I was able to purchase a bottle on Tuesday, April 10 and posted the following note: Bight pale straw colour. Unfortunately, the 2017 is not remotely as exciting as the 2016. The nose is very spicy and slightly honeyed with some citrusy, ripe winter melon fruit. Dry, medium-light bodied, very tangy, gently spicy, citrusy flavours with a crisp, unoaked, faintly floral-mineral finish. Lighter than the recommended best buy 2016 with only 12% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number 20170660 L171721731 on the lower part of the glass bottle and a screwcap closure. The recommended best buy 2016 (**+) was released on September 2, 2017 at $19.95. Note that at least 3 reviewers didn’t check the vintage year and thought that bottle being tasted (a repeat 2016) was the 2017. Clearly it was not. CSPC 493338

TASTING NOTE: This wine was grown on vines planted in the 1960s. It's got groovy notes of nectarine, pear, citrus, freshly picked corn and spring flowers in a sleek, flavourful wine with mouthwatering acidity and a tangy finish. Drink through 2025 with barbecued pork and corn on the cob. (Vintages panel, March 2018) Price $ 19.95
Bottle Size 750 mL
Tasting Date vintages release - May 12, 2018
