ESTATE RIESLING 2016 VQA Short Hills Bench, Niagara Escarpment
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer HENRY OF PELHAM
The wrong vintage 2015, not 2016 was presented in the LCBO lab. Here is the note on the 2016: Bright medium straw colour. Slightly honeyed, very spicy, honeyed, ripe apple-melon-lemon nose with some mineral notes. Faintly sweet, medium-light bodied, honeyed, bright, spicy, ripe apple-melon-lemon flavours with a lingering, crisp, unoaked, mineral-tinged finish. Has 11.5% alcohol and 13 g/L residual sugar with lot number 3117B23 2016 on the lower part of the glass bottle. Screwcap closure. TONY ASPLER / 89-points / BEST BUY - Minerally, slightly smoky, honeyed grapefruit bouquet and a light floral note; light-bodied, off-dry, grapefruit and lime flavours with a touch of honey for balance. TASTING NOTE: This is a pale, slim-downed, well balanced riesling with somewhat reserved aromas of lemon blossom, green apple, spice and some minerality. It's streamlined, just off-dry and nervy with fine acidity. The length is excellent. Some lovely sour lemon bitterness on the finish. Very pretty.
