SAINT-ROMAIN BLANC 2015 AC |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |

DOMAINE TAUPENOT-MERME |
Only the third bottle sampled was good. It had a bright light straw colour with a fairly intense, slightly spicy, gentle lemon-meringue nose with some oaky notes. . Dry, medium bodied, fairly harmonious, ripe lemon flavours with a lingering, gently cedary finish. For whatever reason, the first 2 bottles were way past their prime - mature, bitter, oxidized and very oaky. Has 13% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar with lot number LSRBL15 on the upper part of the glass bottle. Only two St-Romain whites have been released in the past 20 years. I still prefer the MARCHAND-TAWSE SAINT ROMAIN 2011 that was released on January 23, 2016 at $31.95. TONY ASPLER / 86.5-points - Smoky, oaky, spicy apple nose; medium-bodied, dry, sweetish apple flavour with overly evident oak. Keep your receipt so if you get a bad bottle you can return it! |

TASTING NOTE: Romain Taupenot, one of the up-and-coming winemakers of the Côte de Nuits, runs Domaine Taupenot-Merme assisted by his sister Virginie. Romain considers himself a \"terroirist\" and favours a noninterventionist approach in their organically farmed vineyards. This lovely wine shows notes of oak spice, baked apple and tropical fruit, with a supple, soft mouthfeel balanced by crisp acidity. Pair this with scallop risotto or stacks of fried mozzarella, basil and nectarine. (Vintages panel, April 2017) |
