HEARTLAND |
Very deep intense purple colour. Intense, spicy, baked plum-cherry nose with some cedary notes. Dry, medium bodied, quite well structured, slightly spicy, tangy, faintly minty, ripe plum-cherry flavours with a lingering, crisp, cedar-tinged, high acid finish. This totally new blend of 73% Shiraz, 16% Dolcetto and 11% Cabernet Sauvignon (vs. 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Shiraz, 5% Grenache and 5% Merlot for the 2013) has 14.5% alcohol and now 3 g/L residual sugar with a screwcap closure. The 2013 (*+/**) was released on January 7, 2017 at $14.95. TONY ASPLER / 87-points - Spicy, lightly cedary, black fruits on the nose; full-bodied, dry, plummy with lively acidity. Well-extracted fruit with a firm tannic finish. Not a detour. |

TASTING NOTE: Sourced from 100% Langhorne Creek fruit, this blend of Shiraz, Dolcetto and Cabernet Sauvignon is crafted in an easygoing, approachable style. Nicely articulated dark fruit with a spicy undertow and just a hint of smoke. Smooth and silky and very long, with impressive structure and balance. Punches way above its price point. Try this with pulled pork sandwiches or lamb kebabs. (Vintages panel, Jan. 2018) |
