Extremely deep intense purple colour. Extremely cedary, baked plum nose with lots of earthy, sandalwood notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, extracty, somewhat herbal, Intense, cedary, baked plum flavours with a lingering, sandalwood-driven, earthy, mocha-chocolate-tinged finish. This decidedly mature oddball Haut Medoc has much more to do with a Spanish Gran Reserva Rioja than any Bordeaux I have ever tasted. This blend of 48% Merlot, 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot has 13.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L05 on the back label. Tasted three times. The first bottle had some tca cork taint notes. You can safely ignore the April 28, 2009 tasting note appearing in the Vintages Catalogue. |

TASTING NOTE: The partnership between French actor Gerard Depardieu and proprietor Bernard Magrez has fashioned a sensational wine from an equal part blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Tasting like a top classified growth, this 2005 offers notes of cedar, creosote, smoked herbs, and plenty of black currant and sweet cherry fruit, medium to full body, beautiful purity, an expansive mouthfeel, and ripe tannin. It will drink well for a dozen years. Score - 92 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, April 29, 2008) |
