RARE SPARKLING ROSÉ Product of France
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer LUC BELAIRE
Bright day-glo faintly reddish pink colour. Very spicy, faintly honeyed, plummy, strawberry nose. Off dry, medium-light bodied, spicy, honeyed, ripe plum-apple-cassis-cherry flavours with a crisp, fairly effervescent finish. This generic produit de France remarkably overpriced and underwhelming. This REPEAT is an easy-to-drink, sweetish, fruity 12.5% alcohol blend of 90% Syrah, 5% Cinsault and 5% Grenache with 24 g/L residual sugar. It is made by the inexpensive “Charmat” method using bulk stainless steel tanks. This Rose last appeared in Vintages (*+) on September 30, 2017 at $39.95. Meanwhile, beware of tastings.com reviews (from The Beverage Testing Institute in Chicago) which are apparently paid-for by producers. It means that you can safely ignore the 92-point tasting note appearing in the Vintages Catalogue. It sells for $35.35 (# 12404969) at the SAQ. There may only be one thing worse than getting a bottle of this Rose - it’s the still-available 6-litre Methuselah (SAQ# 12604848) for $713.50. CSPC 395384
