CHANCE 2007 IGT Maremma Toscana |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
POGGIO VERRANO |
Extremely deep intense purple colour. Intense, expansive, slightly spicy, explosive, ripe plum-bing-cherry puree nose with lots of cedar-vanilla notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, well structured, dense, very slightly spicy, complex, intense, ripe plum-cherry flavours with a lingering, crisp, fairly earthy, sandalwood finish. Terrific mouthfeel. This blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and Cabernet Franc has 15% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar with lot number L141 on the back label. The recommended best buy 2006 (***/***+) was released on October 25, 2014 at $37.95. TONY ASPLER / 91-points / BEST BUY - Spicy-cedary, savoury nose of plum compote; medium to full-bodied, dry, firmly structured plum flavour kept buoyant with fresh acidity. |

TASTING NOTE: The 2007 Chance is an edgy and evolved red wine with mineral tones, dried fruit, fig, wild mushroom and dark tobacco. The wine is very dry in the mouth with dusty tannins on the polished finish. It offers a generous dose of tertiary aromas that underline its ten years of age and the warm growing conditions that Maremma saw in this vintage. But the wine's power and heft has evidently not diminished over this past decade. I am hesitant, however, to assign a long drinking window. I suspect that the wine is giving the best of itself right now. Drink date: 2017-2020. Score - 91 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Jan. 31, 2017) |
