PINOTAGE 2017 WO Robertson |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
BARISTA |
Very deep intense purple colour. Intense, spicy, very cedary, ripe plum-cherry nose with lots of smoky, lime-tinged, mocha-chocolate notes. Fairly dry, medium-full bodied, quite well structured, fairly spicy, ripe plum-cherry flavours with a lingering, high acid, smoky, mocha-chocolate finish. This easy-drinking, crowd-pleasing, mocha-chocolate inspired Pinotage has 13.5% alcohol and 7 g/L residual sugar with lot number L6LA2892 on the back label and a screwcap closure. Admittedly a love it or hate it style, this 2017 is better than the 2014 (*+) with 86-points released on November 14, 2015 at $14.95. TONY ASPLER / 88-points / BUY - Smoky, plum and cedar nose; medium-bodied, dry, plum and dark chocolate flavours. Easy drinking. |

TASTING NOTE: Winemaker Bertus Fourie, who holds degrees in microbiology, chemistry and oenology, is nicknamed \"Starbucks\" for his role in shaping so-called \"coffee Pinotage,\" a style of wine exhibiting roasted coffee flavours. This one suggests charred wood, mocha, dark chocolate and dark fruit. Enjoy it with grilled or smoked meats or, for a more thematic pairing, try unsweetened biscotti and smoked cheeses.
