DOMAINE RENÉ COULY CHINON 2014 AC |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
COULY-DUTHEIL |
Extremely deep intense purple colour. Somewhat greenish, intense, dried ripe plum, garrigue-tinged nose. Somewhat dry, medium bodied, stewed plum-prune flavours with a tight, somewhat herbal, high acid, youthful finish. This still youthful 100% Cabernet Franc has 13% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L1408002 on the back label. This is the 16th release of a Couly-Duthel Chinon in Vintages since 2004, my favourite being the very tasty, LA BARONNIE MADELEINE CHINON 2005 released on January 31, 2009 at $21.95. A firm, savoury, somewhat tannic style, Chinon is not what I would call a crowd-pleaser. If you are a fan, there are 200 cases now available. |

Cabernet Francs from the Chinon region are among the finest reds produced in the Loire. Known locally as \"Breton,\" Cab Francs from Chinon are typically quite supple and have a distinct green pepper note mixed in among the red raspberry and cherry tones. These wines often suggest a graphite-tinged minerality. This will be a nice match for a meaty stew, particularly one featuring lamb. |
