Very pale straw colour. Slightly spicy, honeyed, ripe apple-apricot nose with some waxy leesy notes. Dry, medium-light bodied, fairly zesty, somewhat shy, ripe apple-apricot puree flavours with a lingering, crisp, somewhat spicy, very faintly fizzy, unoaked finish. Quite ready-to-drink. Has 11.5% alcohol and 5 g/L residual sugar with lot number APN.303-040-17 on the back label. This screwcap closed Bocksbeutel has the shape of a flattened ellipsoid and is traditionally used for wines from Franconia. The 2010 (*+/**) was released on March 17, 2012 at $16.95. |

TASTING NOTE: The Bürgerspital estate, one of the oldest in Germany, dates to 1316, with the first vines planted in 1321. Tradition and attention to detail are key, as can be seen even in the use of a traditional-shaped bottle. The best examples of Silvaner are found in Franken, where the clay-limestone soils and cool climate promote wines with considerable body and structure. This one is fragrant and ripe with crisp acidity, white pepper spice and a fine mineral undertone. Try this with a shellfish stew, shrimp or grilled rainbow trout. (Vintages panel, March 2017) |
