PRIMITIVO 2014 IGT Salento Rosso
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer MASSERIE PISARI
Fairly deep intense purple colour. Slightly spicy, baked plum nose with some sandalwood notes. Fairly dry, medium bodied, dusty, spicy, dried plum flavours with a lingering, gently rustic, high acid, somewhat savoury, apple-tinged finish. A wintery red that is best matched with a hearty stew. Despite the price, this Primitivo is really not worth a detour. Has 14% alcohol and 9 g/L residual sugar with lot number L1736 on the back label. TONY ASPLER / 87-points - Lifted, spicy plum and leather nose; full-bodied, sweetish plum with lively acidity and a firm tannic finish. CSPC 270306

TASTING NOTE: The grapes of Puglia enjoy plentiful sunshine and cooling ocean breezes that help promote the region's notably fruity, structured, robust wines. This 2014 Primitivo has a wealth of bright strawberry that meshes very nicely with suggestions of herbs, dried fruit, and toast to produce a layered, complex, satisfying wine.
