DOG POINT |
Very bright extremely pale straw colour. Has some initial, resiny, pine pitch notes. on the nose. Intense, slightly spicy, grassy, melon-lemon-apple nose with some faintly sweaty, rather sulphury, schisty, rhubarb notes. Dry, tangy, very grassy, lemon-apple flavours with a lingering, high acid, somewhat bitter, slightly sweaty, yellow grapefruit-tinged, unoaked finish. Has 13% alcohol and 4 g/L residual sugar with a new lot number L6229 on the back label with a screwcap closure. A THIRD REPEAT of the 2016 (*+) which was last released on August 19, 2017 at $26.95. TONY ASPLER / 85-points - Pale straw; smoky, tarry reductive (bound-in sulphur) on the nose; medium-bodied, grapefruit and green melon flavour. Will the sulphur ever blow off? |

TASTING NOTE: Opens with that sexy, flinty, smoky scent, all crushed rocks and minerals amongst green melon, lime and lemon rind, floral things. The palate is tight, racy, scintillating for acidity and its, again, mineral-charged feel. Amongst the skeletal, mouthwatering feel, a drizzle of juiciness to keep you hounding at your glass. It's pure, driven, ultra-refreshing, brilliant drinking. Drink: 2017-2021. Score - 94 (Mike Bennie, winefront.com.au, Jan. 17, 2017) |
