HBH 1ER CRU CHAMPAGNE 2002 AC |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
LOUIS BROCHET |
Mature deep yellow colour. Complex, toasty, baked ripe lemon meringue nose. Dry, medium-full bodied, spicy, honeyed, creamy, lemon meringue and apple puree flavours with a lingering, caramel-tinged, gently effervescent finish. Totally remarkable and for me, a delicious, ready-to-drink, complex, very toasty, mature but still alive 2002 Champagne. This is a food Champagne with lots of “goût Anglais” that may not appeal to everyone. Bottling 04/2003 released on 10/2015. TONY ASPLER / 90-points / TRY - Yellow gold in colour; bready, minerally, tangerine peel nose; medium-bodied, dry, foamy on the palate with a toasty, apple flavour. For lovers of well-aged champagnes. |

TASTING NOTE: Crafted to honour Alain Brochet's father, Henri Brochet-Hervieux, the HBH is produced only in those years deemed truly exceptional. The 2002 growing season was certainly that in Champagne. The vintage elicited high praise, with many critics seeing it as the best of the decade; this wine certainly makes a strong case for that claim. It's absolutely lovely, with attractive biscuit and toast notes, baked apple and floral tones and a smoky minerality. This is a wine of exceptional balance and depth. Just beautiful.
