BARREL SELECT PINOT NOIR 2014 Elkton, Oregon |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
RIVER'S EDGE |
Very deep purple red colour. Intense, complex, faintly smoke-tinged, very ripe black cherry puree nose with some mineral-tinged, mocha-chocolate notes. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, well structured, fairly intense, vibrant, ripe black cherry-plum-cassis flavours with a lingering, gently smoky, cedar-tinged finish. A tad cedary, for melon but quite ready-to-drink. Has 14.8% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar with a screwcap closure. TONY ASPLER / 89-points / TRY - Intense, spicy, lifted nose of cherries, violets and vanilla oak spice; medium to full-bodied, richly extracted (maybe over-extracted!) plummy-cherry flavours with lively acidity. The recommended 2012 (***) was released on June 25, 2016 at $34.95. |

TASTING NOTE: Returning to a robust, forward style in 2014, this is loaded with black cherry and mocha flavors. There's a touch of charred wood, and alcohol approaching 15%?this is no wimpy wine. It spent 11 months in 40% new wood. Editors' Choice. Score - 90 (Paul Gregutt, Wine Enthusiast, Aug. 1, 2016) |
