LAS ALTURAS VINEYARD PINOT NOIR 2014 Santa Lucia Highlands, Monterey County
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer BELLE GLOS
Extremely deep intense purple colour. Intense, spicy, juicy, super ripe black cherry nose with some cedary notes that, all in all, is reminiscent of Zinfandel but not Pinot Noir. Fairly dry, medium-full bodied, smooth, spicy, intense, dense, ripe cherry, dark berry flavours with a lingering, sandalwood-vanilla-cedar finish. Definitely a crowd-pleaser but gets a lower score because it simply doesn’t taste like Pinot Noir. This overpriced REPEAT has 14.8% alcohol and 9 g/L residual sugar. TONY ASPLER / 87-points - Spicy, earthy, plum bouquet with evident vanilla oak; full-bodied, dry, no discernible Pinot character here - over-extracted, creamy, plum puree flavour. CSPC 212076

TASTING NOTE: These are big, bold, unabashedly fruity wines ... The 2014 Las Alturas Santa Lucia Highlands is full, dense and thick, though flavor-wise the juiciest of the bunch. Its fruit is blue, cut with savory anise and brown spice. (Esther Mobley, sfchronicle.us, June 10, 2016) Price $ 59.95
