DAC TINTO 2014 DO Dão
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer QUINTA DA PELLADA
Very deep intense purple colour. Very attractive, slightly spicy, ripe plum-cherry puree nose with some gently cedary, sandalwood notes and some mocha-chocolate. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, well structured, fairly dense, slightly spicy, intense, ripe plum-cherry flavours with a vibrant, lingering, gently cedary, lifted finish. This delicious, extremely well priced blend of Touriga Nacional, Jaen, Tinta Roriz and Alfrocheiro has 13% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar. TONY ASPLER / 88.5-points / BEST BUY - Cedary, black fruits on the nose with oak spice notes; medium-bodied, dry, floral, black raspberry flavours; well-balanced and well-structured. Don’t miss it! TASTING NOTE: Alvaro Castro is one of the rare creative geniuses in the wine world who designs outlandish concept wines that would make Rube Goldberg blush, and also manages to put out pretty, beautifully grown, inexpensive reds that would make any sensible wine buyer rush to the store for the latest release. DAC is part of the latter category, a blend of touriga nacional, jaen, tinta roriz and alfrocheiro, local varieties Castro tends organically at vineyards his family has owned for centuries, 1,600 feet into the foothills of the Serra da Estrela. There's nothing pushed or challenging about it, just the clarity that granite soils bring to the wine's red raspberry, pomegranate and plum flavors, light, pretty and cheerful.
