TASTING NOTE: Reaching into antiquity, the origins of the ancient grape Falanghina may be Greek. Today, it's most associated with Campania, where it flourishes in the volcanic soils, plentiful sunshine and long growing season. Falanghina's versatility with food has ushered in new interest and excitement about the wines it creates. This one is from Sannio, where the grapes are sourced from hillside sites, maximizing critical sun exposure. The floral, richly aromatic nose suggests orange citrus, candied fruit, apple, pear and mineral. Rich and mouthfilling with a smooth, round, luxurious texture. Long, with an emerging spiciness. Very interesting, very tasty. Try it with swordfish, grilled pork or grilled chicken. (Vintages panel, Oct. 2017) |
