TASTING NOTE: The 2011 Late Bottled Vintage Port is a blend of 35% Touriga Nacional, 35% Tinta Roriz and 30% Touriga Franca, bottled in 2015. It comes in at 108 grams per liter of residual sugar and was bottled with a long cork. This has big fruit and big flavor and a nuanced finish with plums, rhubarb and herbs. (It reminded me a bit of a recent Auru.) There's a hint of a high-toned note, but it folds into the whole readily and disappears. The tannins are there, too, but well integrated. Add nice concentration in the mid-palate and this LBV is built to age and develop. With some of the more traditionally-styled LBVs in this report, they all have certain bragging rights. This stood out for its intensity off-flavor. It is always sensationally delicious, and not just in a sweet and sloppy fashion. Like most top-flight LBVs, this actually showed better the next day when its flavors were far more evolved and expressive. Yes, you can drink it right now, but if you treat it with some respect, you will have more rewards in a few years. It doesn't have to be held like a true Vintage Port -- it doesn't have as much power and it is further along--but it will certainly be better in five years than it is today.
