TASTING NOTE: The back label explains that this is named for wine-loving US president Thomas Jefferson who apparently had a fondness for Limoux, the signature sparkling wine of the south of France. This is made by the traditional method, using chardonnay, chenin blanc, mauzac (a local variety) and pinot noir. It has a fairly intense aroma of ripe pear and zucchini, with light herbal spice. It's mid-weight, firm, dry and well balanced with slightly mineral/wet clay and lemon notes on the finish. Reminds me a bit of Spanish cava, but with bolder fruit. The length is very good. Tasted January 2016. Score - 89 (David Lawrason, winealign.com, Jan. 21, 2016) |
