BIEN NACIDO VINEYARD PINOT NOIR 2014 Santa Barbara County
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer FESS PARKER
Fairly deep intense purple colour. Fairly spicy, quite juicy, intense, ripe plum-cherry nose with some gentle cedary notes and faint hints of mocha-chocolate. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, fairly well structured, harmonious, slightly spicy, rounded, ripe plum-cherry flavours with a fairly crisp, very attractive, gently cedary, lingering finish. Sturdy and yet quite charming plus ready-to-drink. Has 14.1% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar. This 94-point note is based solely on the second bottle I tasted on November 14. The first bottle was off (I do not know why) and had a much lower in score. The 2012 (***) with 90-points was released on November 28, 2015 at $52.95. CSPC 209858

TASTING NOTE: A big, ripe effort that offers lots of black raspberry, licorice, toasted spice and scorched earth, the 2014 Pinot Noir Bien Nacido Vineyard is rich, mouth-filling and textured on the palate, with plenty of fruit. It's an outstanding wine to drink over the coming 4-5 years. This cuvee sees a touch of whole cluster (20%) and 18 months in one-third new French oak. Drink date: 2016-2021.
