RESERVA GARNACHA/TEMPRANILLO/CARIŅENA 2012 DOP Cariņena
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer MONASTERIO DE LAS VIŅAS
Very deep intense purple colour. Gently cedary, spicy, intense, plum nose with some cedar-sandalwood notes. Fairly dry, medium bodied, quite well structured, ripe plum-cherry-apple flavours with a high acid, sandalwood finish. According to the winery website this REPEAT blend of 70% Garnacha, 20% Tempranillo and 10% Cariņena has 13.5% alcohol on the label (only 13% on the winery website) and 2 g/L residual sugar with a new lot number L171408 on the back label. TONY ASPLER / 88-points / BUY - Red licorice and red plum nose; medium-bodied, dry, firmly structured raspberry flavour with lively acidity. Seems very youthful for a 2012. The recommended 2012 (**) was last released on July 22, 2017 at $14.95. CSPC 166579

TASTING NOTE: Young for cariņena and especially for Monasterio de las Viņas, the fruit is gainfully 2012 employed, ripe and fully extracted but the tannins are chalky, grainy and still in charge. The classic Cariņena florality lingers in the air and sits on the tongue. Expertly representative of the denomination and the house. Drink 2019-2023.
