FAITHFUL HOUND 2014 WO Western Cape
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer MULDERBOSCH
Very deep intense purple colour. Fairly intense, slightly herbal, spicy, plum-apple nose with some cedary notes. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, extracty, very slightly earthy, baked plum flavours with a lingering, faintly garrigue-tinged, high acid, mocha-chocolate-tinged finish. This Western Cape Bordeaux-inspired blend of 32% Cabernet Franc, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 16% Malbec and 7% Petit Verdot has 14% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar. This solid red would go well with a rib steak. However, the somewhat low level of 5.1 g/L total acidity suggests that it is best for medium term drinking. CSPC 922443

TASTING NOTE: (30% new oak): Bright ruby-red. Sexy spicy oak lifts aromas of currant, mulberry, menthol and chocolate. Plush, fine-grained and sweet, combining an almost chocolatey ripeness with perfectly integrated acidity and lovely dried herb lift. Savory, structured and subtly intense; balanced already but built for a slow and graceful evolution in bottle. A wonderfully pure and delineated blend with a sophisticated seamless texture, terrific complexity and lovely floral lift. Score - 92 (Stephen Tanzer, vinous.com, May 2017) Price $ 20.95
