BEERENAUSLESE 2015 Qualitätswein
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer SCHMITT SÖHNE
Pale straw colour. Honeyed, sweet, tangerine-peach-apricot fruit on the nose with some Seville orange marmalade notes. Sweet, medium bodied, smooth, very spicy, honeyed, tangerine marmalade flavours with a lingering, fairly high acid, quite well structured finish. Don’t kid yourself - this Rheinhesen offers decent value but really does not have the weight, richness and/or complexity of a classic Beerenauslese, which of course would cost much more. At $21.95 a half litre it’s definitely worth trying. Has 9,5% alcohol and 121 g/L residual sugar with lot number APN390702709016 on the back label. CSPC 523837

TASTING NOTE: Schmitt Söhne is now under the stewardship of the 4th generation of the family to oversee operations, but the Söhne name has been a part of the winemaking landscape for more than 200 years. Their 2015 Beerenauslese is rich, ripe and tasty with notes of dried apricots, vanilla, and honey. This has superb concentration and acidity, and is very well priced for such a treat.
