VETAS BLANCAS RESERVA ESPECIAL CABERNET FRANC 2014 Limarí Valley
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer TABALI
Extremely deep intense purple colour. Slightly dusty, firm, dried plum-apple nose. Dry, medium bodied, somewhat tart, faintly peppery, dried plum flavours with a cedary finish. Has 14.5% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar. The second bottle presented was corked. TONY ASPLER / 87-points - Spicy, floral, blackcurrant nose; medium to full-bodied, dry, firmly structured blackcurrant and tobacco flavours. As for the high 90-point reviews quoted in the Vintages Catalogue, there is no way of knowing whether the bottle reviewed 4 months ago is the same as what was shipped to the LCBO. Too bad the reviewers didn’t update their notes based on what was shipped. CSPC 514117

David Lawrason's WineAlign colleagues - Michael Godel, Steve Thurlow and John Szabo, MS - also each awarded this wine 90 points. TASTING NOTE: Four hectares were originally planted as a blending variety, but cab franc has proven to be the best suited Bordeaux variety in the cooler Limari Valley. This has notably deep colour for cabernet franc. It comes from a higher altitude, more inland site. Lovely ripe black raspberry, violets, tobacco and chocolate on the nose. It is mediumfull bodied, well balanced and quite dense with some franc greenness on the finish. The length is very good but wanted more. Fairly tannic, dry and chewy - give it a year or two. Score - 90 (David Lawrason, winealign.com, June 10, 2017) Price $ 19.95
