SAUVIGNON BLANC 2016 WO Coastal Region |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
DE GRENDEL |
Very bright light straw colour. Slightly spicy, bright, grassy, lemon meringue nose with some slightly slightly reductive, leesy, mineral notes. Dry, medium bodied, quite well structured, slightly spicy, grassy, ripe, lemon-melon-apple puree flavours with a lingering, high acid, refreshing, mineral-tinged finish. Has 13.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L1168 on the back label. Screwcap closure. Unfortunately, a second bottle (not rated) had some reductive rubber hose notes on the nose. |

TASTING NOTE: This wine actually consists of 9% Semillon alongside the Sauvignon Blanc. Combined with an extended lees contact of 100 days, the result is a creamy textured palate with ripe exotic fruit. It is rounded and has a good weight and some complexity. This is a good, foody style. Drink: 2016-2017. Score - 90 (Christelle Guibert, decanter.com, Dec. 20, 2016) |
