WHITE PALETTE 2015 VQA Niagara Peninsula |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
13TH STREET |
Bright medium straw colour. Spicy, slightly honeyed, baked apple nose with some faint lychee notes. Fairly dry, light bodied, spicy, lemon-melon-apple-lychee flavours with an unoaked finish. Has 12.5% alcohol and 12 g/L residual sugar with a screwcap closure. Try with spicy Thai cuisine. A ready-to-drink, somewhat unexciting, third repeat of the 2015 (*+) last released on April 15, 2017 at $15.95. |

TASTING NOTE: In 2015 the White Palette goes highly, oddly and intentionally exotic. The dominant riesling component is eerily late-harvest, off-dry concentrated and yet either musqué or gewürztraminer (or both) dominate the nose and the palate. I do appreciate and welcome the levied and elevated acidity to match the first strikes and the linger here is longer than ever. A bold statement from J.P. Colas and a risk that leads to great reward. This actually carries some newfangled excitement. The waxy lemon finish is one that refuses to die. Drink: 2016-2019. Score - 89 (Michael Godel, winealign.com, Sept. 8, 2016) |
