BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2011 DOCG |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
FATTORIA DEI BARBI |
Very faintly ambering medium brick red colour. Fairly intense, slightly spicy, sandalwood-driven, warm ripe plum nose. Dry, medium bodied, quite well structured, harmonious, slightly spicy, rounded plum flavours with a very slightly earthy, lingering, sandalwood finish that shows some acidity and some red licorice notes. Great with an old cheddar. Has 14.5% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar with lot number L230416 on the back label. The recommended 2010 (***) was released on October 29, 2016 at $53.95. |

TASTING NOTE: The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is a steady and pleasing effort that shows dark fruit layers packed tight with spice and tobacco. Like many of the wines this vintage, Fattoria dei Barbi's newest release is immediate and approachable. You can drink it now or wait a few years longer. It tastes just great now with soft fruit layers and generous servings of black cherry and plum. It shows a dense texture with sweet tannins on the close. Drink Date: 2016-2026. Score - 92 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, March 3, 2016) |
