FUMÉ BLANC 2015 Rosomel Vineyard, VQA Beamsville Bench, Niagara Escarpment
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer HIDDEN BENCH
Bright light yellow colour. Intense, complex, spicy, key lime pie nose with some faintly resiny, cedar notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, quite well structured, flavourful, quite cedary, fairly intense, key lime pie-tinged flavours with a lingering, very toasty, fairly crisp, somewhat resiny, pineapple-tinged finish. Try with turkey. Has 13.5% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar. I preferred he recommended 2013 (***) released on December 12, 2015 at $27.95. TASTING NOTE: Taking a page from the Bordeaux and Pouilly-Fumé playbook, Hidden Bench ferments the fruit for this wine in French oak barrels. The resulting wine is rich and structured, with melon, gooseberry, passion fruit and tropical fruit all beautifully framed by a smoky-flinty mineral tone. Complex and great. Wow, what a wine!
