CRIANZA 2012 DO Ribera del Duero |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
LEGÓN |
Deep intense purple colour. Slightly spicy, apple-plum nose with some cedary notes. Dry, medium bodied, slightly spicy, tangy plum-cherry flavours with a lingering, vanilla-tinged, slightly savoury finish. Ready-to-drink -seem to be drying out. Has 14% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L-7069 on the back label. Spent 14 months in French and American oak. Tasted twice - the first bottle was quite terse with lots of peppery, dried apple notes (85-points). A second showed more fruit (87-points). You can probably ignore the 91-point tasting note appearing in the Vintages Catalogue from June 2016 which is well before this batch appears to have been bottled. |

TASTING NOTE: On the bright side of tempranillo, this is rich in red fruit flavors of strawberry and cherries. It is intense, but in a delicate way, showing its tender fruit generously but at the same time with a lovely balance. Easy to drink now, it will improve with a couple of years in your cellar. Score - 91 (Tasting panel, wineandspiritsmagazine.com, June 2016) |
