TASTING NOTE: Founded in 1870, family-run and -operated Balthasar Ress is now run by Stefan and Christian Ress, the fourth and fifth generation to oversee operations here. Their cellars' house wines date back to the 1920s. The 2014 Riesling Kabinett is an interesting and complex wine with impressive freshness and citrus, honeyed fruit and a fine, underlying minerality. Floral, soft and crafted in a sweeter style, it is beginning to show the exciting petrol hints so prized as Riesling ages. A nice match for Korean-spiced ribs. (Vintages panel, Dec. 2016) |
