NORMAN HARDIE RIESLING 2016 VQA Ontario
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer NORMAN HARDIE
Bright medium straw colour. Very youthful, leesy-yeasty nose with lots of of spicy, honeyed, melon-apple-lemon purée notes along with some wildflowers and yellow grapefruit. Faintly off-dry, medium-light to light bodied albeit with decent mouthfeel, tangy, somewhat tart, faintly spritzy, lemon-apple-yellow-grapefruit flavours with a lingering, high acid, slightly leesy, very faintly bitter, nasturtium flower-tinged finish. Needs time. Has 11.5% alcohol and 26 g/L residual sugar. THIS NEEDS TIME! The 2015 appeared in Vintages (**+) on May 14, 2016 at $21.00 with only 9.8% alcohol and was Recommended Best Buy. TASTING NOTE: People 'in the know' know Norm Hardie, and people not in the know, need to get there. He is a true gem. This Riesling is zesty, vibrant and fresh with tangy lime citrus and mineral making up its heart and soul. This is like licking a stone that has had fresh lime squeezed over it - it's absolutely delicious. This is hot-summer-day-on-a- patio wine if there ever was one. Enjoy as a sipper, or with oysters or lake fish. (Vintages panel, June 2017) Price $ 21.00
