TINAQUAIC VINEYARD ESTATE CHARDONNAY 2014 Santa Maria Valley, Santa Barbara
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer FOXEN
Bright forward light yellow colour. Intense, complex, spicy, honeyed, toasty, somewhat oxidized, forward, lemon meringue nose with some orange marmalade notes. Fairly dry, medium-full bodied, well structured, harmonious, spicy, forward, intense, ripe lemon meringue flavours with a lingering, very toasty, pear jam finish. The problem here relates to the clearly oxidative notes on both bottles tasted. If this doesn’t bother you, then go ahead. The 2013 (***) with 90-points was released on August 22, 2015 at $54.95. TASTING NOTE: Yields tend to be low in this dry-farmed vineyard, which especially struggles during a drought, but the quality is fantastic. Aromas of browned toast, popcorn, Meyer-lemon pith, honey pollen and a mineral herbal chamomile character show on the nose. A vibrant chalkiness reveals itself on the sip, with lemon blossom and grapefruit pith keeping the palate tight, grippy and texturally zippy.
