RIESLING FEINHERB 2016 Qualitätswein
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer DR. PAULY BERGWEILER
Extremely pale straw colour. Spicy, honeyed, ripe melon-apple nose with some slight mineral notes. Slightly sweet, honeyed, ripe winter melon flavours with a crisp unoaked finish. Quite ready-to-drink. Has 11% alcohol and 19 g/L residual sugar with lot number 257618500217 on the back label. Feinherb is a synonym for ‘halbtrocken’ (half-dry or off-dry). Many producers use now Feinherb instead of Halbtrocken because many Germans thinks Halbtrocken (half dry) is a code word for ‘sweet’. In fact, most Halbtrockens are not, but the perception is problematic, so Feinherb is used. CSPC 496554

TASTING NOTE: The term \"Feinherb\" on a German wine label doesn't literally translate as \"Goldilocks,\" though it's not far off: It denotes a wine that's not too dry and not too sweet, but somewhere in between. This nicely balanced Riesling offers plenty of zippy acidity, bright lemon and grapefruit with touches of mushroom and mineral adding complexity. Pair with fish in a creamy dill sauce, or, if you're barbecuing, try grilled trout or tilapia brushed with butter, sprinkled with dill and drizzled with lemon.
