FAUSTINO I GRAN RESERVA 2004 DOCa Rioja |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
FAUSTINO MARTINEZ |
Deep intense purple colour. Slightly spicy, warm baked plum nose with lots of sandalwood-cedar notes. Dry, medium bodied, quite well structured, fairly cedary, warm ripe plum flavours with a lifted, lingering, sandalwood-cedar finish. Better than the 2001 (**+) released on May 16, 2015 at $36.95. TONY ASPLER / 90-points / BEST BUY - Cedary-sandalwood nose of strawberries with a note of graphite; medium-bodied, dry, elegant and well-balanced cherry and strawberry flavours carried on fresh acidity to a firm finish. Has 13.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar. Listen to Tony Aspler’s recent review on 680 NEWS at http://www.vintageassessments.com/Tony_Aspler_Faustino.mp3. |

TASTING NOTE: Reedy red-fruit aromas feature a note of green. This is tannic in feel, with a mix of red-leaning raspberry, currant and strawberry flavors. Tea, herb and other grassy notes make for a dry finish. Overall this is excellent, although it does have an herbal character. Drink through 2028. Score - 92 (John Szabo, MS, winealign.com, Nov. 20, 2015) |
