ST. DAVID'S BENCH VINEYARD GAMAY NOIR DROIT 2014 VQA St. David's Bench, Niagara-on-the-Lake |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
CHÂTEAU DES CHARMES |
Fairly deep purple red colour. Slightly spicy, bright, plum-cherry-raspberry nose with some pencil eraser notes. Dry, medium to medium-light bodied, tangy, fresh plum-raspberry flavours with a crisp, unoaked, still youthful, mineral-tinged finish. A great match for pasta in a fresh tomato sauce with capers, fresh basil and garlic. Try serving this wine in a large Pinot Noir glass. You may also be surprised that it will also benefit from additional aging. TONY ASPLER / 89-points / BEST BUY - Spicy, white pepper and plum bouquet; medium-bodied, dry, elegant and well balanced cherry and plum flavours with lively acidity. This Gold Medal winner at the Ontario Wine Awards 2016 has 13.0% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar. |

\"Gamay is a grape that is always close to my heart, so it was great to see Chateau des Charmes take two gold medals [at the 22nd Ontario Wine Awards] when both their regular gamay and gamay 'droit' tied in the category. The droit is a special clone of gamay that was developed by the founder of the winery and has a bit of a cult following in its own respect.\" (Andre Proulx, torontoist.com, June 3, 2016) September 3 Vintages Release - Only $17.95 This wine also took home a Gold Medal at the 2016 National Wine Awards.
