GEKKEIKAN SAKE California |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |

GEKKEIKAN |
Clear and colourless. Attractive, slightly honeyed, very faintly nutty. gently floral, Basmati rice nose with some slightly spicy, mineral notes. Harmonious, fairly dry but rounded, medium-light bodied, slightly spicy, melon-tinged, Basmati rice flavours with a refreshingly crisp finish. My BEST BUY sake! Some like it warm, I much prefer it chilled. TONY ASPLER / 90-points - BEST BUY - almond blosson nose with a spirity note; a touch of sweetness with velvety-smooth mouthfeel accompanied by very fine length and a hint of orange peel on the finish. Has 14.5% alcohol and 12 g/L residual sugar with a screwcap closure. Also available in a 1,500 ml bottle at only $18.95 (cspc 158535). |

Gekkeikan means ‘laurel wreath’, and the firm’s Olympian presence is undisputed. At the turn of the [20th century], it became the first brewery to sell bottled sake, and has been at the forefront of numerous other developments … The firm has been the number one producer since the 1960s … Not known for resting on their laurels.
