GEKKEIKAN SAKE California
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer GEKKEIKAN
Clear and colourless. Attractive, slightly honeyed, very faintly nutty. gently floral, Basmati rice nose with some slightly spicy, mineral notes. Harmonious, fairly dry but rounded, medium-light bodied, slightly spicy, melon-tinged, Basmati rice flavours with a refreshingly crisp finish. My BEST BUY sake! Some like it warm, I much prefer it chilled. TONY ASPLER / 90-points - BEST BUY - almond blosson nose with a spirity note; a touch of sweetness with velvety-smooth mouthfeel accompanied by very fine length and a hint of orange peel on the finish. Has 14.5% alcohol and 12 g/L residual sugar with a screwcap closure. Also available in a 1,500 ml bottle at only $18.95 (cspc 158535). CSPC 145433

Gekkeikan means ‘laurel wreath’, and the firm’s Olympian presence is undisputed. At the turn of the [20th century], it became the first brewery to sell bottled sake, and has been at the forefront of numerous other developments … The firm has been the number one producer since the 1960s … Not known for resting on their laurels.
