Owners John and Barbara Neufeld originally didn’t plan to open a winery retail outlet, however after winning a major award for their 1998 Vidal Icewine (Ontario Wine of the Year – May 2003), they had to rethink their plans. The result is their small retail store located in the 120 acre vineyard. John’s career [as a grape grower] began in 1972. In the late 1990s, John collaborated with winemaker David Hojnoski to produce a small batch of Icewine from a surplus of grapes following his contractual obligations to other wineries. The name of the winery comes from a place found on historic maps of the area called Palatine Hills and was located not far from the location of the Neufeld farm.
