CABERNET SAUVIGNON ICEWINE 2017 VQA Niagara Peninsula, Ontario |

A FOURTH REPEAT of the recommended 2017 (***) that was last released on October 16, 2021 at $39.95. Here is my new review based on a more recently bottled batch with a NEW lot number 05/25/20 on the lower part of the glass bottle. Medium red colour with a very attractive nose that is fruit focused, mostly ripe, plummy, warm strawberry pie and vanilla ice cream. Sweet, medium to medium-full bodied, harmonious, gently spicy, bright, ripe, strawberry pie flavours with a lingering, bright, vanilla-driven finish. Quite delicious, it has 11% alcohol and 199 g/L residual sugar with an extremely important hefty 10.4 g/L total acidity. I suggest that you open the box when purchasing to make sure that you are getting the correct vintage. Unfortunately, the store I checked only had bottles with the previous lot number 091719 meaning it will probably be not quite as fresh as the one tasted. |

TASTING NOTE: Deep, rich burgundy colour in the glass with a bold nose of ripe black cherries, black currant jam, cherry kirsch and raspberry tart. It's luxurious, complex and rich on the palate with velvety texture, compoted dark berries, sweet cherry/raspberry jam and a long, lush finish buoyed by mouth-watering acidity. Score - 93 (Rick VanSickle, winesinniagara.com, Jan. 17, 2022) |
