VIDAL ICEWINE 2004 VQA Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
Chateau des Charmes |
Fairly deep yellow gold colour. Very sweet, marmalade nose. Very sweet, viscous, buckwheat honey, apricot jam and Seville orange marmalade flavours with a long spicy finish. A bit low on acidity, especially when compared to the higher rated **+/*** 2000. Tasted once. |

An ideal cool-climate vintage such as 2004 allowed the grapes to ripen slowly and steadily during the growing season. Once they were netted and given the big freeze, the quality of the fruit was such that it could withstand the harsh weather. The result is Icewine that is lush and sweet, but with a fabulous crisp zip to give it balance. |
