REIF ESTATE |
Bright gold colour. Attractive, very sweet, complex, intense, very faintly smoky, warm baked apple and creme brulee nose. Intense, very sweet, medium to medium-full bodied, viscous, harmonious, mouthfilling, honeyed, slightly spicy, bright, ripe melon-apricot-apple puree flavours with a lifted caramel-butterscotch finish. This repeat is not quite up to the recommended 2012 (***/***+) released on April 12, 2014 at $24.95. According to the LCBO website this release has 167 g/L residual sugar, while the previous one had 237 g/L residual sugar! |

TASTING NOTE: I would much rather more Niagara producers go for this almost Sauternes-style ice wine when using vidal, then leave the elegant ice wines for riesling. This golden-amber elixir has a terrific nose of rich crème brulée, orange marmalade, peaches and a hint of honey. It's very sweet, thick and creamy/oily in texture with just enough underlying, balancing acidity. Outstanding length! Will be great with fruit flans, peach pie! Score - 93 (David Lawrason, winealign.com, Nov. 13, 2013) |
