Medium light yellow colour. Somewhat unimpressive nose - hints of tropical fruit cocktail and pineapple with tinny hints of tomato ketchup. Sweet, slightly caramelized, honeyed, tropical fruit and spicy pineapple flavours. Tasted once. |

The Puddicombe Family Farms have been in the Puddicombe family’s hands for over 200 years. Today the operation features a pick-your-own farm, fruit market, bakery and, of course, a large piece of land used for grape growing. When the Stoney Ridge winery left the Puddicombe property in 1997, Murray Puddicombe’s daughter Lindsay stepped up as winemaker. The vision was to always keep the winery small. As Lindsay Puddicombe said last June in an interview with Dan Kislenko of the Hamilton Spectator: This is a small cottage winery that’s in addition to what we already do. People come here for the farm, to have a lunch, and can taste and buy some wine as well. Our production will always be small. I made 3,000 cases in the first year and 3,500 cases last year. Beyond this fine Icewine, and many of the usual grapes you’d find in Ontario, Puddicombe prides itself in making wines from misunderstood or under-appreciated grapes such as Colombard and Muscat. |
