SPARKLING VIDAL ICEWINE 2007 VQA Niagara Peninsula |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
INNISKILLIN |
Rather deep yellow colour. Spicy, sweet, lively, caramel nose with some disconcerting, peppery, stewed apple notes (assessed at room temperature). Extremely sweet, mouthfilling, fairly effervescent, caramel-cooked red apple flavours with fairly good lingering finish. It has higher alcohol and perhaps less finesse than the 2006 (**+/***) released on December 6, 2008 at $69.95. I will taste a fresh bottle for a follow-up assessment. Do not lay this wine away, it s meant to be consumed soon. |

This innovative sparkling Icewine won a Gold Medal at the 2009 Wine Access Canadian Wine Awards. Inniskillin may not have invented Sparkling Icewine, but they certainly have run with the idea. It displays all the virtues of their still Icewines, but the CO2 bubbles seem to have the effect of adding a touch of intriguing dryness to this generally very sweet wine. As a result, it is an excellent partner for p‚tÈ, or great for sipping after a holiday meal. |
